I am faced with another bite at the apple. I am Icarus with another chance and the sunburn to prove it.
On the eve of my return to Dance 101 and I am filled with calm excitement as if in a submarine facing the same place in the ocean where I crashed two years earlier.
If you look for the tawdry details of that crash, please know you are looking in the wrong direction. Life happens in the forward movement of people, places and things, those living in the past destined to repeat it. I am present and looking forward in joyous anticipation of what lies ahead for all of us.
Just when you think the impossible is not possible... possibility knocks and four old friends find themselves in conversation in the parking lot of Dance 101 with renewed acknowledgement, acceptance and enormous respect for: one another. Battle weary but not wounded, we join hearts to repair the bullet holes, patch up the ship and resume our original course, as chartered in April 2004. It's mission to create a sanctuary for all who love dance, a place where creativity is nurtured and expressed, never criticized. Where laughter is abundant, where heartache and worries are forgotten, where bodies move to the conscious sounds of the present.
I would like to thank Aris, Bubba and Ofelia for their gracious hand in supporting my return. Ofelia keeps saying how this two year break had to happen for growth on all our parts. She is so on point with that. It is said that the strongest tribe has no leaders nor followers but a group of individual warriors sharing the same vision. We, the unusual suspects very well embrace the fight. We are warriors.
My role is summed up in this....Silent Recognition.
As a dance teacher, I can tell you this phenomenon happens several times in a class.
1. The beginning of class when the new music kicks in and everybody gets on the same page
2. When the class starts working in concert with each other.
3. The first time the students do the new choreography to the music
4. The energy of love that hits during the growth of everyone It's like being hit by a Red Bull tidal wave straight to the soul!!!!! And when the students come back for the next class and everyone looks on in knowing anticipation or better yet THE SILENT RECOGNITION that something special has happened, something visceral will happen and tomorrow something empowering will happen then..... MISSION ACCOPMPLISHED. This is what I strive to contribute to you, to dance 101 and to myself in the process.
So on the eve of my first day back, I say to each and every one of you, Owner/Artistic Director/Teachers / Students....Here is to your silent recognition and your joyful empowerment. David Norwood
