Happy Anniversary Dance 101! 13 new classes on the schedule! A week of Free Classes! New Website! Trunk shows! Rehearsals! Performance at the Alliance in June! And that's just work. Don't get me started on all that's going on in my personal life, too. Between them both, I can't tell you how it feels when my head hits the pillow. Anthony Robbins, in "Awaken the Giant Within", Chapter 9, "The Vocabulary of Ultimate Success" is redefining my speech lately. This is survival terminology. Some examples:
Instead of saying: Say this:
overwhelmed..... in demand
frustrated.... challenged
I hate...... I prefer
rejected........ misunderstood
stressed...... blessed
that stinks..... that's a little aromatic
pissed off...... tinkled
irritated........ stimulated
depressed..... calm before action
lazy..... storing energy
I am trying to incorporate as many words as possible from the right column in my everyday vernacular. It's way beyond the trite Think Positive! This is a survival strategy we all could use. Words express how we feel... or is it words establish how we feel. Half empty half full. With practice I should get really good at saying things like: Oh poo! This is just different (terrible). If you've ever heard the argument that what happens just IS - it's through relative judgement that it gets labeled good or bad - changing how you label things should - in theory- have a HUGE impact on how you see and experience your life. In this vein, I am ALL OVER these euphemisms. I am in demand, blessed and challenged. Think about this - in your own speech pattern - what do you commonly say and how do those words affect your disposition? Just one more thing to think about - because - none of us have enough to think about.... riiiiiiiiiiight? -Ofelia
